1. Democrat Jared Golden has won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District in the nation’s first federal race to be decided by ranked-choice voting. Golden beat out incumbent Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin, who has been representing Maine’s 2nd District in Congress since 2015, with 139,231 votes. Poliquin received 136,326 in the ranked-choice voting tabulation. (NewsCenterMaine)

2. The snow Friday morning is causing numerous crashes across Maine as the morning commute gets underway. The Maine Turnpike Authority reported several crashes early Friday. The speed limit on the highway was reduced to 45 mph. The speed limit on I-295 was also reduced because of the snow. (WMTW – Closings)

Boston’s Mookie Betts was a runaway winner for the American League Most Valuable Player award after the 26-year-old outfielder led the Sox to a first-place finish w/ a dominant season that included a batting title. Betts received 28 first-place votes and 410 points from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in balloting announced Thursday. (Boston.com)

Miles Scott, the boy who went viral after the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted his wish to become Batman, is now cancer-free. “Miles has returned to being a typical kid—playing Little League, going to school, helping his family farm, and even selling his first market goat in the local fair!” the non-profit organization said in a statement. In 2013, the Make-A-Wish Foundation transformed San Francisco into Gotham so that Miles–a.k.a. Batkid–could fight crime. (People)
