1. Facebook has announced that almost 50 million of its users, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have been affected in the biggest hack that the social platform has ever faced. Business Insider reports that hackers obtained the ability to access people’s Facebook accounts, as well as any other services that they used their Facebook account to register for, including apps like Instagram, Tinder, Spotify, and Airbnb. Facebook has informed police of the security breach and reset the passwords to all accounts affected. It has yet to be determined whether the attacker misused any accounts or stole private information. (Business Insider)

2. President Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is expected to be in Maine today to help the state’s GOP. Maine’s Republican party announced that Trump Jr. will attend an event with Governor LePage and State Senator Eric Brakey in a push to raise funds for GOP candidates ahead of the midterm elections in November. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. (NewsCenterMaine)

3. A Portland man wants the city to seriously consider his idea for converting a cruise ship into a floating shelter for homeless people. Kenneth A. Capron, founding director of the nonprofit MemoryWorks, has invited potential stakeholders to a meeting on Tuesday afternoon at Portland City Hall to discuss his vision for acquiring a used cruise ship that could serve as a homeless shelter, as well as affordable housing and immigrant housing. The ship might also have space for social service providers. Capron said he is serious about the project, which he is calling Hope Harbor. Tuesday’s meeting will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 24 of Portland City Hall. (Press Herald)

4. A new mobile app that identifies ticks using photo recognition software is now available for iPhones, developed by an uncle-and-nephew team from midcoast Maine. Just released, the app “What’s My Tick” analyzes photos using a complex code to arrive at a species of tick based on certain physical characteristics. It also offers information about tick-borne diseases and their prevalence in the app user’s location. The app was created by Dann Ladd of Belfast and his nephew, Ryan Bilodeau, who is pursuing studies in computer science at Thomas College in Waterville. (WGME)
