N.E.R.D’s album No_one Ever Really Dies, is set to be released in just a few days, on Friday, December 15th.On the album, will be their new track “Don’t Don’t Do It.” The song will feature Kendrick Lamar and was written by Frank Ocean, and will address the issue of police shootings in America. Kendrick has already made a mark in the media as an activist, so he seems to be the perfect fit for this song. Also, his presence will no doubt help to send a clear message to listeners.
According to Pharrell Williams (Musician and member of N.E.R.D), the track was in part created to comment on the shooting of Keith Scott, and series of events that followed after. Keith Scott was an African American man who shot and killed by the police officer last year in North Carolina. It was later decided that there would be no charges against the officer. There have since been protests. (CNN)
The song was designed to make a statement Pharrell claims, “He is the arch of no compromise, no concession, and very colourful with it.” (variety.com) We expect the song to convey both messages and emotions as several talented artists have come together to support a movement that they believe in. Look for this song on Friday!
